Per 1 juli 2026 komt er een mooie ruimte vrij in ons pand in Amsterdam. We zijn op zoek naar enthousiaste nieuwe leden, die niet alleen een werkruimte zoeken, maar ook graag onderdeel willen worden van de vereniging Kostgangers.
Wij beheren het pand zelf. Dat resulteert in een betaalbare huur en grote zeggenschap, maar vergt ook zelfwerkzaamheid door de leden. Werken in Kostgewonnen betekent betrokken zijn bij de vereniging, klussen, vergaderen, sociaal zijn, en gezamenlijk verantwoordelijkheid dragen voor beheer en behoud van het pand voor de toekomst. Het is een pré als de nieuwe huurder bestuurlijke of organisatorische ervaring heeft.

Over ons
Vanaf 1993 is het voormalig schoolgebouw in gebruik als woon/werkpand onder de naam Kostgewonnen. In 2005 is het pand gekocht door Vereniging Kostgangers, waarvan alle huurders lid zijn. Het pand is in 3 jaar grondig verbouwd, grotendeels door de leden zelf, om ruimte te maken voor uiteenlopende culturele functies. Zo zijn er in het gebouw 15 atelierruimtes voor o.a. kunstenaars, ontwerpers, filmmakers, 7 (atelier)woningen en een 1 theater. Het pand wordt door de leden beheerd. Er is een bestuur en er zijn werkgroepen voor onderhoud van pand en tuin, en voor interne en publieke activiteiten.
Kostgewonnen is gevestigd aan de Derde Kostverlorenkade 34 & 35, 1054 TS Amsterdam.
Atelier op de begane grond - tuinzijde
Dit is een ruimte van 47 vierkante meter op de begane grond, met een totale plafondhoogte van 4,5 meter. De tussenverdieping (197 cm hoog, 18 vierkante meter) en de kitchenette zijn beschikbaar voor overname. We delen een ruime tuin aan de oostzijde en een dakterras aan de westzijde. Naast het atelier bevindt zich een theaterruimte, dus in de gedeelde gang is af en toe levendigheid te verwachten. Vanwege de ligging en grootte is het atelier ook geschikt voor workshops, openbare lezingen en andere bijeenkomsten. De ruimte mag echter niet als woonruimte worden gebruikt.
De ruimte kost ongeveer €495 per maand, inclusief internet en lidmaatschap, exclusief gas/water/elektriciteit, plus 4 uur per maand aan zelfwerkzaamheidsuren. Er is een borgsom van 3 maanden kale huur vereist.
Houd er rekening mee dat de ruimte en ons gebouw helaas nog niet rolstoeltoegankelijk zijn.
We zijn op zoek naar nieuwe leden die aansluiten bij de volgende criteria:
• Zelfstandige makers die werkzaam zijn in de kunst-, ambacht- of culturele sector
• Mensen van wie de persoonlijke en professionele waarden aansluiten bij die van een zelfbeheerde ruimte. Niet alleen in theorie, maar ook in de praktijk, want deel uitmaken van Kostgewonnen houdt in dat je bereid bent om energie en tijd te steken in het meebeslissen, het helpen onderhouden van de ruimte en het uitvoeren van de nodige klussen
Mensen die in staat en bereid zijn om op termijn toe te treden tot het bestuur en/of een van de werkgroepen. We zijn specifiek op zoek naar mensen die administratieve en communicatieve taken op zich kunnen nemen
• Mensen of collectieven die gebruik zullen maken van het potentieel van de ruimte, die groot is en zich op de begane grond bevindt. Dit kan bijvoorbeeld productie op grote schaal, een sociale functie, of iets anders betekenen. Aanvragen worden beoordeeld op basis van hoe goed het beoogde gebruik aansluit bij de ruimte.
We verwelkomen van harte sollicitaties van mensen met alle achtergronden en moedigen mensen uit ondervertegenwoordigde groepen in de kunstwereld en plekken als Kostgewonnen aan om te solliciteren.

Procedure: We vragen geïnteresseerden om ons een goed beeld te geven van hun praktijk, hoe ze de ruimte willen gaan gebruiken en hoe ze zichzelf zien binnen de vereniging. De aanmeldingen worden beoordeeld door de leden van de vereniging Kostgangers, waarna een kleine groep kandidaten wordt uitgenodigd voor een gesprek. We zien dit als een kans om de kandidaten te leren kennen en onszelf voor te stellen, zodat we ervoor kunnen zorgen dat beide partijen bij elkaar passen. We geven de voorkeur aan een persoonlijk gesprek, eventueel is online ook mogelijk.
De kandidaten worden de dag na het sollicitatiegesprek op de hoogte gebracht van de uitslag.

A beautiful studio space is available in our building in Amsterdam, starting July 1, 2026. We are looking for enthusiastic new member(s), who are not only looking for a place to work, but also would like to be part of the association Kostgangers.
We manage the building ourselves. This results in affordable rent and a lot of participation in the decision-making, but also requires self-efficacy by the members. Working in Kostgewonnen means being involved in the association, doing chores, holding meetings, being social and taking joint responsibility for managing and preserving the property for the future. It is a plus if the new tenant has administrative or organizational experience.

About us
Since 1993, the former school building has been used as living- and working-space under the name Kostgewonnen. In 2005 the property was purchased by the association Kostgangers, of which all tenants are members. The building was thoroughly renovated over 3 years, largely by the members themselves, to make room for a variety of cultural functions. For example, the building contains 15 studio spaces for artists, designers, filmmakers, among others, 7 (atelier-) apartments and 1 theater. The building is managed by its members. There is a board and there are work-groups for the maintenance of the building and garden and for internal and public activities.

Atelier on ground floor - garden side
We offer a space of 47 square meters on the ground floor, with a total ceiling height of 4.5 meters. The mezzanine (197 cm high, 18 square meters) and the kitchenette are available for takeover. We share a spacious garden on the east and a roof terrace on the west. The atelier's next-door neighbor is a theater space, so you can expect occasional liveliness and buzz in the shared hallway. Due to its location and size, the atelier is also suitable for workshops, public readings and other such gatherings. It cannot, however, be used as a living space.
The space costs about € 495 per month including internet and membership, excluding gas/water/electricity + 4 monthly self-efficacy hours. A deposit of 3 months' bare rent is required.
Please note that the space and our building are unfortunately not yet wheelchair accessible.
We’re looking for new members who fit the following criteria:
• Independent makers working in the arts, crafts, or the cultural sector
• People whose personal and professional values resonate with those of a self-run space. Not just in theory, but also in practice, as being part of the Kostgewonnen community comes with a commitment to contribute energy and time to participate in decision-making, help maintain the space and carry out the necessary chores.
People who are able and willing to eventually join the board and/or one of the working groups. We are specifically looking for people who can take on admin and communication tasks.
• People or collectives who will use the potential of the space, which is large and on the ground floor. This can mean larger-scale production, a social function, or otherwise. Applications will be reviewed based on how well the intended use fits the space.
We warmly welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and actively encourage those from underrepresented communities in the arts and in spaces like Kostgewonnen to apply.

Application process: Applicants are kindly requested to give us a good impression of their practice, how they intend to use the space and how they see themselves within the community. An in-person interview is our preference, but we can also accommodate an online conversation.

Het Kunst Corso verenigt alle kunstvormen en groeit uit tot uniek spektakel
Het Kunst Corso is een voetstap rijdende optocht met ruim 16 wagens die de kunst naar de straat brengt. Met het Kunst Corso vieren we de bruisende kunst- en culturele sector van Amsterdam en vragen we aandacht voor een leefbare en betaalbare stad voor iedereen. Want wat voor stad wil Amsterdam zijn?

Vrijdag 19 januari organiseert Amsterdam Alternative (in OT301) als onderdeel van de Envisioning Free Space Conference een avond over vrijplaatsen in collectief eigendom. Het programma is ontstaan n.a.v. de door AA gemaakte webdocu over collectief eigendom. Van 19:30-22:30 uur: een film screening, live muziek, 3 presentaties en 2 publieke discussies. Na afloop van de presentatie/discussie gaan we verder met een feestje tot 03:00 uur.

A conversation on autonomous buildings, past and present
In 1993, a group of people squatted a former school building on the Derde Kostverlorenkade in Amsterdam and named it Kostgewonnen. They opened the doors for community facilities, a chess-club, a kindergarten and crafts-workshops. For the neighborhood, by the neighborhood. Through their efforts, Kostgewonnen still persists as a legalized building owned by its own community. Thirty years after the squat, the world both inside and outside of its walls has changed. It is time to celebrate this anniversary and reflect on Kostgewonnen’s activist legacy, past and present.
The panel-conversation Without Landlords reflects on the social position, responsibilities and possibilities that exist within autonomous buildings. What have they come to mean in the context of a housing-crises and squatting ban? How can they adapt to a changing world? How is community maintained whilst allowing it to evolve? How does a squatting-past influence the present and future of a community? Without Landlords is about buildings and their communities as living archives. Where do we go from here?

SALWA's Internet Café neemt in juli 2023 W139 over om nieuw werk van vier kunstenaars te presenteren en een reeks screenings, performances, discussies en site-specific installaties te organiseren die het snijvlak van gemeenschap, migratie en internet verkennen.
De afgelopen drie maanden heeft SALWA Foundation haar eerste residentie-programma georganiseerd, waarbij vier kunstenaars zijn uitgenodigd om de internetinfrastructuur in relatie tot migratie te onderzoeken. De kunstenaars in residentie—Chen Yu Wang, Geo Barcan, Hala Alsadi en Sixin Zang—zullen de resultaten van hun residenties delen in een tentoonstelling bij W139 van 7 juli t/m 30 juli 2023. De tentoonstelling verkent thema's als nostalgie, herinneringen, lokale internetinfrastructuren, digitale migratie, online genderrollen en pop-visuele en sonische talen die eind jaren negentig en begin jaren 2000 ontstonden.

Did you know that the University of Amsterdam houses the largest collection of petunia genotypes in the world? The research on plant biology and genetics carried out in the greenhouses of Science Park has the potential to change our daily lives in myriad ways: from plant-based milk and meat production to vaccines and human genetic studies. In a joint collaborative effort, the faculties of the Humanities and Natural Sciences present CROSS-POLLINATIONS, a digital heritage project encompassing both an online platform as well as a physical exhibition at VOX-POP. What is our connection to plant life? And how do we archive a collection of living, breathing and blossoming plants?
The exhibition 'CROSS-POLLINATIONS: Art and the Petunia Collection' is accompanied by an extensive public programme, including panel talks, a lecture series, guided tours, botanical drawing workshops and more. The programme further explores the richness of the University of Amsterdam’s scientific research on flowers and plants, from a variety of perspectives – artistic, historical, cultural and scientific. All events are free of charge and open to the public.
